The South Korean women’s national volleyball team was swept by Japan at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League 2023 (VNL).
The team, led by head coach Cesar Hernandez, fell to Japan 0-3 (18-25 13-25 19-25) in the second week of the tournament in Brasilia, Brazil, on Saturday (Sept. 16).
After going 12-0 in the VNL last year, Korea went 6-0 in the tournament. They didn’t win a single set in any of their six matches and finished last among the 16 nations competing.
Three teams failed to secure a win at the VNL: the Netherlands, Croatia, and South Korea. Of these, South Korea is the only team that hasn’t won a single set.
Japan, on the other hand, is in fifth place with four wins (two losses).
South Korea was swept in the first set by Japan’s solid defensive organization.
Set 2 was a similar story. South Korea dropped 메이저놀이터 the second set without ever taking the lead.
At the beginning of the third set, the Korean team was in a close match thanks to the efforts of Hyundai E&C duo Lee Da-hyun and Jeong Ji-yoon. However, they lost the momentum with back-to-back errors at 16-17, and the match was over.
The team will play its third match of the second week against Croatia on Sunday morning.
