“I wasn’t consistent”
Dan Straily entered the KBO prior to the 2020 season when he was linked to the Lotte Giants. In his rookie season, Straylor went 15-4 with a 2.50 ERA in 31 games, establishing himself as an “ace,” followed by a 10-12 record with a 4.07 ERA in 31 games the following year. His 2021 season wasn’t quite as good as his rookie campaign, but he still did his job.
After two years in the Lotte uniform, Straylor took on a new challenge after the season. He returned to the United States to try to make it in the Major Leagues. Without a contract with Lotte, Straylor signed a minor league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks and fought for a spot in the starting rotation from spring training. However, he was unable to make an impact in the U.S. and never made it to the major leagues.
After bouncing around the minor leagues for a while, Straylor reunited with Lotte. Lotte reacquired Straylor at the end of the 2022 season to help them contend for a top-five finish, and he certainly lived up to expectations. Although he was unable to lead Lotte to a top-five finish, Streeley went 4-2 with a 2.31 ERA in 11 appearances.
However, her performance this season left much to be desired. She struggled in two exhibition games, going 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA, and it hasn’t been much different since the regular season began. In May, Straylor didn’t have a single quality start (6 innings or less), going 2-2 with a 5.82 ERA in five starts.
Manager Larry Sutton cited being a “slow starter” and his age (88) as the biggest reasons for Stratton’s struggles. Both are lame excuses, but it’s clear that Straylor wasn’t 100% in April. He struggled to bounce back from a seemingly endless slump, and it wasn’t until May that he regained his form.
In his first start in May, Streeley recorded his first quality start in six games, going 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA. He followed that up with his best start of the season in June, pitching seven innings of two-run ball against the KIA Tigers. But the good times didn’t last long.
Straily hasn’t pitched more than six innings since his second start in June. His best outing was a five-inning no-hitter against the KT Wiz on June 20, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out eight. He followed that up with 5⅓ innings of 1-run ball against the LG Twins and 5 innings of 2-run ball against the Doosan Bears, which doesn’t sound bad based on the results, but the quality of his pitches wasn’t great.먹튀검증
Manager Larry Sutton explained why he chose to pull Stratton after he gave up two runs in five innings against Doosan on April 2 before the game against Hanwha, saying, “Stratton’s pitches were low and his command was inconsistent. He wasn’t walking a lot of batters or not throwing strikes, but I don’t think he was consistent in terms of his command.”
The results weren’t bad, but he left runners on base every inning.
