It was a masterclass in pitching. The score remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the eighth inning, when Doosan came back from the brink to take control of the game and secure the win. With the win, Doosan started the week on a high note, riding a winning streak.
On the 27th, Doosan won the first game of a three-game midweek series against NC in the 2023 KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul 3-2 behind a six-inning no-hitter from starter Choi Won-jun and a home run from the resurgent Yang Seok-hwan온라인바카라.
Doosan starter Choi Won-jun pitched a six-inning no-hitter to set the stage for his team’s victory. Choi allowed three hits and one walk while striking out four in six innings. He used a mix of fastballs, curveballs, and sliders to keep the NC bats in check, throwing 85 pitches for strikes, 57 of which were strikes. With a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning, reliever Jung Chul-won allowed the tying run to score to deny him his second win of the season, but he recorded a Quality Start (QS) (six or more innings pitched and three or fewer runs allowed).
The batting was also strong. Doosan struck first. In the bottom of the second inning, Yang Seok-hwan, batting leadoff, took a four-pitch 146km fastball from NC starter Shin Min-hyuk over the left field fence. It was his 11th home run of the season. After breaking out of his batting slump with two home runs against Gochuk Kiwoom on the 25th, he proved himself again today by activating his home run arsenal. It was Yang’s second straight game with a home run.
After taking a 1-0 lead thanks to Yang’s home run, Doosan allowed NC to equalise in the top of the seventh to tie the game. In the top of the eighth inning, the NC offence was again threatened with a run, but they managed to get out of the jam with the help of new pitcher Park Chi-guk.
Doosan took the lead again in the bottom of the eighth with a run. After Park Kye-beom singled to load the bases, it was outfielder Jung Soo-bin who came up with the big hit. Jung took a two-pitch, 139-kilometre forkball from NC pitcher Ryu Jin-wook and smashed a three-run triple to right-centre field. In the next at-bat, Heo Kyung-min singled to drive in Jung Soo-bin and give Doosan a 3-1 lead.
Just three outs away from victory. On the mound for Doosan was closer Hong Gun-hee. With one out, Hong gave up a double to Park Se-hyuk and a triple to Kim Joo-won. The score was 3-2 with one out. Hong stayed calm and got two outs to seal the win.
